From the President's Office

Announcement from BTS Management Board

March 2024 Issue

Greetings in the precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord. I write as Chair of the BTS Board of Management to inform you that Rev Peter Lin will be stepping down as President of Baptist Theological Seminary Singapore (BTS) and his last day will be 31st July 2024.

Rev Peter joined BTS on 20th July 2020, right amid the Covid-19 lockdown. His initial commitment was to serve for three years, but he graciously agreed to extend his stay for one additional year to the end of July 2024.

During his tenure, he set and implemented a focused vision for BTS, namely, Equipping Lay Ministers and Cultivating Missional Pastors to Strategically Engage Asia’s Harvest. To that end, he initiated the Advanced Institute of Ministry (AIM) to train and upgrade experienced leadership teams and raise new emerging leaders. Since its inception in 2021, 23 churches and about 190 lay and emerging leaders have completed the various programmes.

Rev Peter also played an instrumental role in improving BTS’s fiscal health. This is evidenced in the improved financial contributions by churches and many new individual donors.

The above are just a few instances of how God blessed BTS through Rev Peter Lin.

While we are saddened to lose a godly man and a good friend, we want to bless him and his beloved wife, Michelle, in their continuing journey as God’s servants. We know that it will not only be the seminary community that will miss them but also the wider Baptist and Christian community.

With this in mind, I want to take this opportunity to invite you to the 32nd BTS Commencement Service to be held on Saturday, 18th May, at 10 am at Queenstown Baptist Church. After the Commencement Service, we will have a reception, and you will be able to speak with Rev Peter and Michelle personally and bid them farewell. As seating is limited, please RSVP via https://tinyurl.com/BTSGraduation2024 by 3rd May to confirm your attendance.

A President Search Committee has been formed, chaired by Mr Seck Wai Kwong from Grace Baptist Church, with Rev Edwin Lam, Rev Koh Kok Chuan, Mr Peter Tang, and myself assisting him. Meanwhile, BTS will continue to serve the Christian community in Singapore and beyond with passion and vigour.

If you have any questions or need additional information regarding this transition, please do not hesitate to contact any member of the President Search Committee.

In Christ,

Daniel Soh
Chairman, BTS Board of Management
